Hello

We have reached the end of the Book of Obadiah Challenge, tomorrow we start the Book of Nahum Challenge.

Book of Obadiah Challenge – Day 28 Obadiah (Please click on the blue links to be directed to the Readings)

The pride of your heart has deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks[a]
and make your home on the heights,
you who say to yourself,
‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’
Though you soar like the eagle
and make your nest among the stars,
from there I will bring you down,”
declares the Lord. (Obadiah 1:3-4)

Why pride is such a bad sin? Pride is a terrible sin because it leads to all other sins imaginable. Galatians 5:19-21 provides a long list of sins, and we can see that all of them are expressions of a prideful heart, “sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.” These sins are the outward expression of a heart which set itself in opposition to God.

Pride caused the destruction of the people of Edom. They had become too secure in their material fortification, their heart grew into arrogance. We must be very careful not to let material blessings rob us of our faith and our dependence on God. No matter how wealthy and important we can be, we must always remember that everything belongs to the Lord.

May the Lord richly bless you!
